Leaving the South Shore for Montréal-Trudeau means crossing the river first. Everything else about the trip is secondary: the bridge decides how long it takes. Depending on your town, the route runs over the Samuel-De Champlain bridge, the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel, the Honoré-Mercier bridge or the Victoria bridge, then picks up Highway 20 and Highway 520 to the terminals.

1Which bridge will you use from my town?

It depends on the town and the hour. Longueuil, Brossard, Saint-Lambert and La Prairie most often take the Samuel-De Champlain bridge; Boucherville and Varennes the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel; Châteauguay and the Kahnawake area the Honoré-Mercier bridge. The driver settles the choice at departure, based on live traffic.

2How much extra time should I allow at peak hours?

Twenty to thirty minutes on weekdays, from 6:30 to 9 a.m. heading into Montréal, and from 3:30 p.m. the other way. On weekends, roadwork replaces rush hour: lane closures are announced in advance and we check them before every departure.

3Does it cost more than leaving from the island?

It is proportional to distance, on the meter regulated by Quebec's transport commission. The fixed airport-to-downtown fare does not apply from the South Shore; it only covers the downtown Montréal zone. Each city page lists its real distance, which gives you a reliable ballpark.
