Your taxi between Kingston and the airport

Kingston to Montréal-Trudeau is 282.0 km and about 2 hours 49 minutes. You take Highway 401 east along the St. Lawrence past Gananoque, Brockville, Morrisburg and Cornwall, and the 401 becomes Autoroute 20 at the Québec line. From there it is Vaudreuil-Dorion, the Galipeault bridge, and the West Island into Dorval.

It is the longest of our Ontario runs, but also one of the steadiest: the 401 east of Kingston is four lanes, straight, and rarely congested outside the Montréal area. The two factors that actually matter are truck convoys, heavy on this freight corridor, and the snow squalls that come off Lake Ontario and hit the Kingston–Gananoque stretch before anywhere else on the route. In winter we leave with an hour of margin on the theoretical 2 hours 49 minutes.

We pick up throughout Kingston: the downtown core around Princess Street, Ontario Street and King Street, Sydenham Ward, Williamsville, Portsmouth, Reddendale, Westbrook, Barriefield and the city's east end. Common addresses are also on Division Street, Bath Road, Sir John A. Macdonald Boulevard, Gardiners Road and Montreal Street. Pickups at Queen's University, the Royal Military College of Canada, St. Lawrence College, Kingston General Hospital and Hotel Dieu, the VIA station, the Cataraqui Centre, Fort Henry and the Wolfe Island ferry dock.

Frequently asked questions about taxis from Kingston

1How much notice do you need for a trip from Kingston?
48 to 72 hours. The driver commits close to six hours of driving round trip and crosses a provincial line, so it is not a ride you improvise. For an overnight departure or a long weekend, allow a week, because those slots go first.
2Is the amount confirmed in advance, and is the vehicle private?
Both. The total is agreed before the car leaves Montréal, in Canadian dollars, with no meter. And the vehicle is reserved for your party alone: this is not a shuttle, nobody else gets in, and no stop is imposed on you along the way.
3What is the real weather risk on the 401 in winter?
Snow squalls off Lake Ontario, mostly between Kingston and Gananoque. They arrive quickly, cut visibility to tens of metres and cause truck pile-ups. When a warning is in effect we leave earlier and we tell you the day before, not on the morning itself.
4Do you take students' trunks and oversized bags at end of term?
Yes, it is routine out of Queen's and the Royal Military College, but not in a sedan. A trunk, two large suitcases and a sports bag call for a van: supplement from $20. Give us the number and the bulk of the pieces when you book.
